PhD trained economist from Cornell University, with 20 years of experience in the banking industry, and more than 10 years in public policy, both as a central banker and a public finance advisor. Currently, Principal at Varyag Consulting Group, an advisory firm in security and intelligence, business and financial transactions, and government relations and advocacy in the US and abroad. Previously, Chief Operating Officer at Promerica Financial Corporation (PFC), a commercial bank conglomerate with operations spanning across Central America, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, and Ecuador. Previously, CEO of Banpro Grupo Promerica, the subsidiary of the group in Nicaragua. Prior to banking, worked as main economic adviser to President Enrique Bolaños and at the Central Bank of Nicaragua, leading the technical team in charge of macroeconomic policy, and coordinating the structural reforms necessary to obtain the forgiveness of 90% of Nicaragua’s external debt under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC).
