Melissa is a communications professional with over ten years of experience working with evidence-based research related to literacy education. She helps international companies and organizations put research into practice and publication, communicate evidence-based solutions, use digital outreach, develop print collateral, draft reports, assess program effectiveness, and build partnerships. Working within the private and nonprofit sectors, Melissa has fostered connections, provided technical product expertise, directed field communications, managed conferences, and developed strategic plans that promote and support literacy, at-risk youth, early childhood, and job skills. Her presentations to key stakeholders have provided solutions to urban and non-urban communities, especially those impacted by economic and social differences. Melissa holds a Masters in International Public Policy from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, with a focus on international development, including labor markets in developing economies; gender and rural development policy; global energy and climate policy; and country risk analysis. At SAIS, she researched child labor policy, labor markets in MENA, migration and remittances in Central Asia, and structural transformation in East Africa. Her objective is to continue to work on international projects related to education, workforce development, and helping communities alleviate poverty and food insecurity.
