Expert in the sugar, ethanol and bio-electricity industry, world-wide, with particular emphasis on strategy, operations management, and board-level responsibilities. Patrick Chatenay, ProSunergy’s founder (www.ProSunergy.com), has nearly 40 years of experience in the sugar industry, gleaned in managerial, analytical, and board-level roles, in various regulatory environments and in different countries. Depending on which specific issues are important to a project, including in the public policy sphere, he will call upon personal contacts to bring appropriate additional knowledge to bear. Patrick has advised Ghana – a sugar deficit country – on a National Sugar Policy to incentivize domestic production; the draft policy currently is being reviewed before implementation. At its government request, ProSunergy successfully advised Mozambique – a sugar-exporting nation – on the appropriate level of tariffs on imports of sugar to prevent predatory and unfair competition from subsidised suppliers. Thanks to his international career, Patrick understands sugar policies; particularly, but not only, those of the EU, Brazil, the USA, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Mauritius, Thailand, and Australia. ProSunergy is thus uniquely positioned to design sugar policies which support the development and financial viability of domestic sugarcane and sugar beet industries.
