I have over 20 years of professional experience in a wide variety of roles. For the last several years (2015-now), I've worked as an Advisor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, where I completed my MPA in 2007. In this role I mostly act as a catalyst for students looking to enter the international development or trade fields, maintaining my network for their benefit and monitoring the international development industry to stay current on hiring trends. I also support career development through resume reviews, interview prep, and teaching a regular career management course to students every semester. Prior to 2015, I served in a variety of roles in program management, program operations, and human resources, mostly HQ based with extensive field travel to 15 countries with 3 different NGO's - IRD (now Blumont), Relief International, and Catholic Relief Services (CRS). On the programs side, I have done program assessments, proposal design, submitted program and cost proposals (successfully) to USAID and the US State Dept, audited programs in crisis, and acted as Country Director. On the operations side, I've been a recruiter 3 times (Peace Corps, IRD, CRS), I've interviewed probably close to 1000 people, reviewed thousands of CV's, and hired at least 100 different colleagues across a variety of positions in international development and humanitarian response. I've been a technical advisor for emergency Human Resources, where I recruited disaster response technical specialists while also building the capacity of local colleagues and partners in program surge situations.
