Tony Crooks is an international education & development specialist, with 30 years’ global leadership experience in international higher education and education diplomacy & aid. From a base in Sri Lanka, he currently manages Australia Awards - South Asia & Mongolia, the Australian Government’s scholarship, fellowship and alumni engagement program in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This assignment follows a four-year appointment as Team Leader of Australia Awards - Africa, a continent-wide $400 million flagship development initiative, providing 1,000 postgraduate scholarships annually to professionals from 50 African countries. Prior to his work with Australia Awards, Tony had: - spent a decade in Indonesia as a Director at IALF: Education for Development - overseen, as Group General Manager (Global Services) at IDP Education Australia, the world’s largest international student recruitment operation, with offices in over 30 countries - represented Australian higher education in North America as Executive Director of the Australian Education Office at the Australian Embassy in Washington, D.C. - served as the Australian Government’s inaugural Counsellor (Education, Science & Training) for South and Central America - as Director International at the University of Melbourne, provided leadership and strategic direction to the University’s international activities and directed the operations of Melbourne International.
