Walid Fayad (He / Him)

• Walid holds a B.Sc. in Economics and a Master’s in Management - Finance and Entrepreneurship. He strengthened his academic background with continuous learning such as earning the CFA Charter holder, undertaking climate change and sustainable investing training, and becoming a Certified Climate Risk Professional (Chartered Banker Institute) as well as a Certified Expert in Biodiversity Finance (Frankfurt School of Finance and Management). He also earned the CFA Institute’s Certificate in ESG Investing. Furthermore, he put his knowledge into practice via 23 years of professional experience working in banks (Natexis Banques Populaires, Fransabank, Banque Audi France, HSBC) and international development financial institutions in banking (EBRD, IFC/World Bank) and including donor-funded development projects. • Walid has 17 years of in-depth experience in project management, team leadership, and quality assurance, whereby he was managing multidisciplinary teams for technical assistance projects; as well as due diligence investments projects for assessing risk management in financial institutions. • Walid also has more than 10 years in climate action, climate finance, green finance, biodiversity finance, decarbonisation strategies for FIs, and climate risk management. This includes his roles as: Technical Lead in Green Financing in implementing EIB- Greening Financial Systems TA Programme for DAI and BB Academy; Senior Biodiversity Finance and Sustainable Finance Expert for EU DG INTPA and DG NEAR; Economic Expert in Renewable Energy in implementing the Egypt-Nexus Water Food Energy-Energy Pillar (NWFE-EP); Senior Climate Risk Key Expert in implementing EIB’s Climate Risk Strategy at Crédit Agricole du Maroc, for Stantec Belgium; Senior Climate Risk Key Expert in supporting Bank Al Maghrib in terms of Climate Corporate Governance; the development, marketing, and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy/green finance products in banks, with notable experience gained through launching of GEFF Lebanon in Bank Audi (Lebanon) with Stantec Türkiye; the development, marketing, launching and management of MorSEFF (Morocco), uniquely co-financed by four development institutions (EBRD, EIB, AFD and KfW), with blending provided by the EU, and which also allowed him to prove his skills in managing and in resolving multiple stakeholders’ conflicting requests; the management of ArmSEFF (Armenia) and TurSEFF (Türkiye); and drafting multiple successufl technical proposal on climate risk and climate finance as responses to tenders (80% win rate on drafted technical proposals). • Walid has more than 12 years of experience in drafting investment proposals and business cases at international development financial institutions (EBRD, IFC), technical assistance, developing blended financing with grants, evaluation, monitoring (EBRD, EIB, AfDB, EU DG-INTPA), EBRD Performance Requirements on Environmental and Social Policy and IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability risk management practices. He’s also well versed in renewable energy and energy efficiency, support to MSMEs, economic inclusion, climate finance and innovative sustainable finance instruments, climate risk, and private sector development projects. • Walid has excellent analytical and reasoning skills and the capacity to provide sound judgement concerning the issues in his area of expertise through drafting and team coordination of several internal investment memorandums for EBRD and IFC (which include extensive and in-depth financial analysis), as well as proposals and Expression of Interests for Stantec Belgium. • Walid has outstanding relationship skills, and a proactive personality, gained through establishing and furthering relationships with development financial institutions, and government officials, and with more than 60 financial institutions in more than 17 countries at CEO and CFO levels.
