ICF Energy Markets interns contribute to the development of innovative, analytical, high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff. Our Interns are given opportunities to work on assignments that foster growth and allow them to develop solutions across the power, natural gas, and renewable energy sectors. Through contributing to client engagements, colleague and peer interactions, and specialized training, ICF Interns develop subject matter expertise and project management skills.
This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2026. At this time, pay is expected to be $23/hour for undergraduate interns and $28/hour for graduate interns. Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location or hybrid from our Reston, VA office for those local to the area. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.
As an Energy Markets Intern, you will:
Perform advanced quantitative and economic analysis of energy markets
Contribute to the development and enhancement of ICF proprietary models and databases
Evaluate the impact of future regulation and support the development of client strategies to manage change
Write analysis for major client’s deliverables
Support the development of research synthesis reports, industry benchmarking, quantitative analysis and policy summaries
Contribute to business development and thought leadership development through market research, data analysis and creation of marketing content.
Basic Qualifications:
A minimum of 30 completed college level credit hours in Energy, Policy, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field
Interns may or should have:
A completed bachelor’s degree plus enrollment verification in a Master’s degree program in Energy, Policy, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field
Strong interest in one or more of these areas: energy economics, energy finance, operations research, and energy policy analysis
The ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel
Basic knowledge of R, Python and/or other coding languages
Strong organizational and project management skills
Strong analytical skills and capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
Working knowledge of US energy markets, policies, and technology.
