Position Overview:

Chemonics International seeks a Benefits Specialist. The Specialist, Benefits is responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations of all group health and welfare benefits programs, with a particular focus on disability and workplace accommodation programs. The Specialist assists employees with benefits, well-being, and paid leave questions, coordinates all related billing and invoice reconciliation, maintains database for employee contributions, benefits eligibility and problem resolution. The Specialist is expected to collaborate closely with stakeholders and across Human Resources to provide great customer service by proactively finding solutions for our employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates employee benefit programs including, but not limited to, group health, dental, vision, short/long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, well-being, paid leave, commuter, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), workplace accommodations, and workers compensation/DBA.
  • Serves as initial point of contact for enrollment assistance in Employee Self-Service (ESS) for new hires and employees experiencing qualifying life events.
  • Processes benefits-related transactions and maintain benefits records in HRIS systems.
  • Updates and maintains new hire orientation online resources and may provide assistance on benefits eligibility and options for new hires and existing employees
  • Provides support in the planning and implementation of internal-facing events including annual enrollment, investment education, well-being sessions, and benefits fair
  • Facilitates resources for employees and complex claims resolution.
  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of communication to large employee groups or staff including annual disclosures for distribution to staff
  • Assists with developing and updating policies as necessary
  • Stays abreast of state and federal leave requirements and ensures company compliance with the provisions of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) (and corresponding amendments), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and the Department of Labor.
  • Responsible for current and accurate state statutory Workers’ Compensation laws and OSHA reporting requirements
  • Builds knowledge of benefits regulations policies, and best practices, through industry membership affiliations
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Experience in handling FMLA and workplace accommodation cases preferred
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Worker’s Compensation, and ACA.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with accounting software outputs and/or Excel
  • Experience working in Open Enrollment workflows in HRIS
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to provide proactive customer service to both internal and external clients
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and work with highly confidential and/or protected information required
  • Exhibits high emotional IQ with emphasis on empathy and compassion
  • Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Preferred HR or Benefit certifications (GBA, SHRM, CEBS)

The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $78,800 - $98,500.

An employee’s pay position will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.

Overtime exemption status may change due to state regulatory requirements.
