We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Training and Capacity Building Specialist for an upcoming World Bank-funded opportunity in collaboration with the National Youth Institute (INJ) in Mozambique entitled, Eu Sou Capaz. This position will be based in Mozambique – in Maputo or one of the project’s target provinces – and is contingent upon award.

Project Description:

The anticipated Mozambique Eu Sou Capaz Program aims to provide better opportunities for education and access to services for girls, adolescents and young women (ages 10-19). Specifically, the project will design and delivery activities to: (i) support the empowerment of out-of-school adolescent girls through with life skills, mentoring, and community-level social and behavior change communications (SBCC), and referrals to health, gender-based violence (GBV) and education services; and (ii) reduce the direct cost of education for vulnerable girls through school-level interventions involving community engagement as well as the provision of uniforms, bicycles, and opportunities for participation in sports.

Job Description:

The Training and Capacity Building Specialist will work closely with the INJ and Community Engagement Specialist to plan and deliver training programs benefiting community facilitators and mentors implementing project activities. S/he will provide programmatic and technical support to the project team, government counterparts, and other stakeholders on: the adaption of training tools and materials, development of training materials for community leaders, and coordination of training programs to ensure appropriate coverage and quality. S/he will work closely with project staff to ensure integration of training activities with other community mobilization approaches.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation, and oversight of all project training and capacity building activities.
  • Serve as a master trainer for INJ-developed curricula for the Safe Spaces and School of Partner interventions.
  • Collaborate with INJ and the Community Engagement Specialist to select qualified community facilitators and mentors during training, and identify and recruit additional mentors and facilitators, as necessary.
  • Plan and manage the initial and quarterly refresher trainings for community facilitators and mentors.
  • Develop and/or adapt training programs for parents and spouses of adolescent girls and for community members.
  • Design and implement systems to evaluate the performance of trainees to inform the final selection of community facilitators and mentors retained by the INJ.
  • Lead the adaptation and translation of the INJ’s standard facilitator and mentor training curricula to align with local context.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to coordinate training logistics, supplies, travel and venue needs.
  • Conduct field supervision visits to provide on-going capacity strengthening support to community facilitators and mentors.
  • Identify additional training needs of community facilitators and mentors and collaborate with INJ to develop refresher training agendas and materials.
  • Produce training reports descripting the training process, evaluation results, and recommendations for future training needs.
  • Contribute to project reports.
  • Identify successful training practices that can be showcased in publications, communication materials, and conferences.
  • Prepare communications materials that highlight the project’s programming, successes, and lessons learned.
  • Any other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy, Psychology, or Educational Sciences. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience designing training packages and acting as Trainer of Trainers in Social and Behavior Change Communication programs in the context of Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescent Girls and Young Women.
  • Experience designing and implementing effective trainings and trainings of trainers among community-level stakeholders.
  • Proven experience applying adult learning and participatory training techniques.
  • Deep knowledge of the institutional, social and cultural realities of Mozambique, particularly issues related to gender equality, education, GBV, sexual and reproductive health, etc.
  • Ability to work well with ministry counterparts, to navigate politically sensitive subjects, and to maintain constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Experience in the fields of education, life skills development, and/or gender-based violence is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and transmit her/his vision to partners and colleagues.
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with others.
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English.
