About the Climate Change Division:

The Climate Change Division (CCD) of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is a Government agency responsible for the coordination of the implementation of the Climate Act (2021) and the National Climate Change Policy (NCCP). The Act and NCCP provide a platform for coordination among sectors, and direction on national positions and priorities regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Permanent Secretary is the focal point for climate change at the national, regional and international level. The policy also supports Fiji in meeting its international commitments to the UNFCCC, UNCBD and UNCCD.

The CCD operates within the Government mechanisms and engages with a diverse range of external stakeholders including other Government agencies, development partners, civil societies, private sectors and local communities. The CCD aims to continually build on these relationships in an effort to form strategic partnership for the effective implementation of the Climate Change Act, the NCCP and its local climate change programmes.

About The Capacity Support Programme [CSP]:

Aotearoa New Zealand has launched a programme to support Pacific countries accelerate the delivery of their climate mitigation and adaptation priorities.  The programme’s goal is to work with national government systems to increase their ability to plan, access, deliver and report on climate finance. This includes climate finance from any funding source, not just from Aotearoa New Zealand. 

The programme provides countries with training and additional personnel, either fulltime roles or technical advisors.

1. Climate Mitigation Officer

About You

The Climate Mitigation Officer will play a crucial role in addressing climate change by assisting the CCD to develop and implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable practices. The role will also assist the CCDto meet the international and national mitigation obligations defined in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), NDC Investment Plan and the Climate Change Act.

Selection Criteria:

To be successful for this role, you must possess the following, including, but not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, climate change, sustainability, public policy, or related field
  • Minimum 2-3 years of professional working experience preferably in a similar position
  • Knowledge or experience in climate adaptation, sustainability, or related fields
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and develop evidence-based strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Project management experience, including planning, budgeting, and implementation
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to climate change and sustainability
  • Excellent command of MS-Office and ICT systems
  • Excellent networking skills with different stakeholders
  • Excellent written and spoken English

2. Climate Adaptation Officer

About You

The Climate Adaptation Officer will play a crucial role in addressing climate change by assisting the CCD to develop and implement strategies to assess risks, identify vulnerabilities, and create plans to enhance resilience to climate-related challenges. The role will also assist the CCD to support line ministries and other partners to access climate financing opportunities.

Selection Criteria:

To be successful for this role, you must possess the following, including, but not limited to:

  • ·Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, climate change, sustainability, public policy, or related field
  • Minimum 2-3 years of professional working experience preferably in a similar position
  • Knowledge or experience in climate adaptation, sustainability, or related fields
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and develop evidence-based strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
