About the Project
- The Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC) contract is a partnership between The Palladium Group and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The HLC programme itself supports the Australian Government’s international disaster relief efforts through the provision of logistical support, disaster relief procurement, and timely technical advice. The HLC team achieves these outcomes through the provision of high quality, multifaceted, flexible, and responsive humanitarian supply chain solutions.


About the role
- The HLC Communications and Public Diplomacy Officer will deliver communications support to project objectives in support of international disaster relief activities. This role will operationally report into DFAT’s Response Humanitarian and Preparedness Branch and will play a critical role in supporting the Australian Government’s humanitarian relief efforts. The role is based in Canberra, on a fixed term (until 30th June 2023), full-time basis.


Key Responsibilities


Develop and support a Communications and Public Diplomacy Strategy that supports DFAT requirements to tell the story of Australia’s humanitarian support in the Pacific.

Implement the activities and principles captured in the strategy, once approved.
Champion the project approved brand, branding guidelines and program themes, ensuring that program communications are consistent with the DFAT requirements and intent.
Proactively identify content opportunities in the programmes, as part of implementation activities and events.
Develop and manage a content pipeline and editorial calendar, including success stories and blogs, and content for digital channels.
Develop internal and external communication material as required in close consultation with DFAT Communications and Public Diplomacy unit and other stakeholders.
Where required, work with DFAT Communications and Public Diplomacy unit in respective DFAT Posts to develop communication materials that support DFAT’s broader communication needs.
Support and coordinate program events as required, including media relations and public diplomacy messaging.
Manage internal and external stakeholders.


About You
Tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience in a related field such as Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or a related discipline, preferred.
Demonstrated experience implementing communication strategies, and working in communications and media;
Demonstrated experience in communications for aid/development; experience working with DFAT or government donors is highly desirable;
Experience in writing and content production for a range of audiences, (e.g., news media outlets, private sector, and the general public) and media channels;
Demonstrated ability to plan, draft, edit and proof-read information to publication standard;
Proficiency in using editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite/Canva advantageous;
Experience in operating DSLR cameras and general photography/videography is highly desirable;
Flexibility to travel to various locations throughout the APAC region.
