Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Responsibilities Supervision
  • Under the overall supervision the Head of Programs and direct guidance of the Communications Officer, the intern will contribute to enhancing the visibility of IOM Djibouti activities. The intern will gain hands-on experience in internal and external communications, content creation, and stakeholder engagement in the field of migration
Learning Objectives

The intern will have the following tasks:

  • Document and valorize IOM activities for dissemination through IOM’s communication channels (social media, newsletters, website, press releases).
  • Support the design and production of communication materials and visibility tools such as brochures, infographics, presentations, and project briefs.
  • Develop technical design and layout skills using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Participate in internal coordination and planning meetings related to operational activities.
  • Facilitate coordination with IOM Field Offices by ensuring the smooth flow of information, harmonized messaging, and timely dissemination of updates.
  • Contribute to monitoring media coverage and supporting media relations, including press outreach and translation of communication content as needed.
  • Undertake all other tasks as may be assigned to support the Mission’s communication and visibility efforts.
  • Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary
  • Support the organization of events, awareness campaigns and press conferences.
  • Participate in the creation of content (texts, visuals, videos) for social networks, and communication media.
  • Provide cross-functional support to teams for their communication needs (presentations, posters, visual, etc.)
  • Assist in updating the media and partner database.
  • Undertake all other tasks as may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS :

Applicants to this internship must, at the time of application meet one of the following requirement :

  • a) Student must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or c) have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation
  • Applicants must be aged between 20 and 36 years.
  • A working proficiency, both spoken and written, in at least one of IOM’s three official languages—English, Spanish, or French—is required
