CARE is seeking a dynamic and visionary Country Director (CD) to lead our team in Niger—a leader who can translate bold ideas into lasting impact, drive strategic growth, and inspire teams to deliver measurable change for women and girls. CARE has been present in Niger for more than five decades. CARE started working in Niger in 1974. Through four programmatic poles, CARE Niger/ Burkina works for the socioeconomic and political empowerment of women and young people, and provides assistance in emergency situations.

The Opportunity
As the Country Director, you will:
Set the vision – Lead the design, delivery, and evolution of CARE Niger’s Strategic Plan, ensuring it is innovative, context-driven, and aligned with CARE’s 2030 Vision.
Drive impact – Oversee development and humanitarian programming that addresses the underlying causes of poverty, advances gender equality, and delivers measurable results.
Lead through change – Ensure preparedness for humanitarian response, manage risks effectively, and foster resilience in times of uncertainty.
Inspire and empower teams – Build and lead a group of, high-performing Senior Leadership Team, promoting CARE’s core values of Transformation, Integrity, Diversity, Excellence, and Equality.
Strengthen partnerships – Build influential relationships with government, donors, civil society, and the private sector, positioning CARE Niger as a partner of choice.
Champion women and girls – Ensure programming intentionally centers on their empowerment, rights, and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Resource Mobilization:
· Lead the design and delivery of a high-quality, inclusive strategic plan aligned with CARE’s global and regional priorities.
· Oversee annual operating plans, adapting to changes in the political, economic, and humanitarian landscape.
· Drive resource mobilization efforts, ensuring a strong and diversified funding base.
Program & Impact Relevance:
· Guarantee readiness for emergency response and ensure effective integration of disaster risk management.
· Oversee program design and implementation based on sound analysis and in line with CARE’s programming principles.
· Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems to track impact and inform advocacy.
Staff Management & Human Resources:
· Build a high-performing, innovative Senior Leadership Team.
· Promote professional development, succession planning, and an inclusive, values-driven workplace culture.
External Relations, Partnerships & Advocacy:
· Build strategic partnerships across government, donors, and civil society.
· Advocate for policy change aligned with CARE’s mission and country office priorities.
· Represent CARE Niger in regional forums and with the media.
What We’re Looking For
· Proven senior leadership experience in complex humanitarian and development contexts.
· Strong track record in program quality, strategy, and fundraising with international donors and partners.
· Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, manage change, and navigate complex political and social landscapes.
· Exceptional communication, diplomacy, and partnership skills across cultures and sectors.
· Commitment to gender equality, social justice, and CARE’s core values.
