  • As soon as possible for three (3) months with a possibility of extension to a maximum of six (6) months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizational Setting and Reporting:
    • The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides end-to-end operational support, advisory services, and solutions to UN entities across the Secretariat.
    • The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe (RSCE), established in July 2010, delivers client-oriented services in HR, finance, multimodal movement, ICT support, and other operational areas.
    • The Office of the Director RSCE provides guidance on strategic planning, communication, budgeting, HR management, property management, quality assurance, business intelligence, conference services, record keeping, and audit response.
    • This internship is within the Quality Assurance and Business Intelligence Unit (QABI), under the supervision of the Chief of Unit.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Support the QABI team to deliver solutions in line with client requirements.
    • Perform data mining and convert raw data into actionable business analysis and insights for management decision-making.
    • Deliver analyses, insights, and reports that influence business strategy and decisions.
    • Document QABI solutions according to predefined templates, including job aids and other materials.

    • Ability to source, clean, and manipulate data from databases (SQL Server, CSV, etc.).
    • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Excel and Power BI to produce dashboards and actionable insights.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Education:
    • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate program (Master’s or higher) in data science, statistics, mathematics, public administration, HR, business management, IT, or related field; or
    • Enrolled in, or completed, the final year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s) in the same fields.
  • Work Experience:
    • No prior work experience required. Training, education, and coursework should benefit the UN during the internship.
  • Special Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and standard office automation equipment.
    • Knowledge of programming languages for data manipulation such as SQL, R, Python, or similar.
    • Desirable: advanced skills in data manipulation, analytics, and visualization; ability to source, clean, and manipulate data from multiple sources.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language (e.g., French) is desirable.

Additional Information

  • Initial period of three (3) months, extendable to six (6) months.
  • Full-time work: five (5) days per week, 40 hours per week, in-person at the duty station.

Intern-Specific Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated.
  • Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
  • Non-citizens/permanent residents may need a visa and work authorization.
