Expected Duration

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of digital communication strategies to enhance DPPA’s visibility across platforms.
  • Identify and develop UN-related storytelling opportunities highlighting DPPA’s preventive diplomacy, peacemaking, and peacebuilding.
  • Assist in creating and editing multimedia content, including videos, animations, graphics, and social media cards for platforms such as X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Threads.
  • Help cover events, meetings, and campaigns through live posting, photography, and video production.
  • Perform other tasks as required to support the communications team’s daily functioning and special initiatives.
  • Work under the supervision of the Communications Officer and in close collaboration with other team members.
  • Meet tight deadlines, pay close attention to detail, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Internship is full-time (35 hours per week), UNPAID, on the United Nations premises in New York; can be adjusted to part-time or remote if needed.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Enrolled in or completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher), or the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level).
  • No professional work experience is required.
  • Studies in Communication, Advertising, or related fields are preferred.
  • Relevant training or practical experience in Adobe After Effects, video/photo editing software, and animation creation is required.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.

  • Applicants cannot have served six months in total as a UN intern in any UN Common System.
  • Close relatives of active UN staff (children, siblings, sons/daughters-in-law) are not eligible.
  • Motivational Statement must include:

    • Graduation date
    • Explanation of why the applicant is best suited for the internship
    • Interest in the UN Internship Programme
  • Personal History Profile must include all past work experiences, IT skills, and three references.
