Background: Our Strategic Communications Unit, within the Office of the Presidency is currently looking for a technological, politically savvy social media expert with significant social listening skills and a keen capacity to create social media packages ranging from a twitter post to a comprehensive online communications strategy that spans digital platforms (from LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp, to Instagram to other online platforms).
The team: The Unit´s main responsibility is to support the communications of the Office of the President, contribute to develop the Bank’s corporate communications priorities, coordinate, and provide guidelines for internal communications and community relations, and develop cross-cutting messages to help position the IDB Group and strengthen its reputation. The unit maintains close coordination with the Communications Division, within the Knowledge, Innovation and Communications Sector, to ensure proper alignment and coordination of all communication efforts with our country offices, operational sectors, functions, IDB Lab and IDB Invest.

What you will do:
You will be a part of a small group of professionals responsible for the IDB’s executive external and internal communications. Your love for news and current affairs, as well as your ability to listen to constantly evolving online conversations will be essential to this role. You will have the ability to transform technical content prepared by sector specialists into engaging, easily understood digital content, a proven track record to adapt written material into visual content, with an understanding of the importance of visual taxonomy. An ability to blend humor and astute cultural and political observations in a way that allows the bank to piggyback on public conversations, make valuable contributions to them, and seize key social media moments to amplify the IDB’s voice and messaging, is also desired. Specific responsibilities would be:
Engagement, Planning, Coordination
- Act as program manager for senior level leadership’s digital media work streams and processes to improve IDB storytelling on social media and digital channels.
- Plan and implement a social media and content marketing strategy that engages identified target audiences.
- Oversee coordination of social media engagement activity with the Digital team within the Bank to ensure the best collaboration and modern application of campaigns that hit their targets.
- Create, edit, and coordinate content in English and Spanish for social media IDB corporate channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, among others).
- Manage workflow with designers and producers to develop artwork and multimedia content.
- Provide tactical and strategic recommendations to improve the reach and engagement of the IDB’s corporate social media channels.
- Monitor, listen, and respond to users in a “Social” way while cultivating leads. Explore social listening and how we can bring to bear this tool to improve our channels and inform brand strategy.
- Translate business or data intelligence into a compelling communications material and content.
- Work with teams to develop and expand community and/or influencer outreach efforts across all channels.
Monitoring, Analyzing, Informing
- Perform daily monitoring of relevant conversations to alert SCU and relevant stakeholders as issues emerge that merit attention.
- Maintain constant dialogue with the Communications Division to understand communication and business goals and proactively spot and raise relevant issues, risks, and opportunities, including structuring alerts and signals to identify and flag important social media mentions in a timely manner.
- Use web-based data collection tools to gather and analyze information about public digital conversations and digital audiences on an ongoing basis.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of current and historical data to identify patterns, trends, and issues relevant to the IDB, its work and its relationship with stakeholders. Use this to help SCU and the IDB develop new and better approaches to communications.
- Deliver regular reports to for senior management on trends, content and sentiment of key identified areas, including the bank’s brand. Provide an analysis of the conversation, highlighting mentions of interest, and recommending actions to take based on contextual analysis.
- Analyze key metrics and tweak strategy as needed.
- Monitor effective benchmarks (Best Practices) for measuring the impact of social media campaigns.
Listening
- In coordination with other areas of the bank, including KIC, (Knowledge, Innovation and Communication Sector) monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy.
- Integrate social media, earned media and opinion data and other information into a comprehensive insights’ framework.
- Gather social insights and incorporate into reports created to guide SCU’s communications.
- Work collaboratively with the Digital Team within the Communications Division in KIC, to deliver integrated insights that help achieve institutional goals.
Community Managing
- Translate the IDB’s strategic and tactical business goals into social media content strategies and posts.
- Coordinate with KIC on Social Studio and schedule content. Manage a social media for the area of responsibility.
- Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video, written) for the area of responsibility.
- Monitor, listen, and respond to users in a “Social” way while cultivating leads. Explore social listening and how we can use this tool to improve our channels and inform brand strategy.
- Coordinate design of social media graphics for LinkedIn cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, etc. for area of responsibility.
- In collaboration with Digital Team in the Communication Division, design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns, being sure to integrate with IDB’s brand strategy.
What you will need:
Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may help with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Education: You hold a master’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, business, international affairs or another related field preferred.
Experience:

- At least 5 years of proven experience within the fields of digital analytics and social media listening, or proven experience implementing politically savvy social media and content marketing strategy campaigns
- Experience with social media listening platforms, such as Brandwatch, Crimson Hexagon, or others
- Proficiency with network analysis and influencer identification systems
- Knowledge of best practices in sentiment analysis
- Proficiency with statistical software such as R or SPSS, as well as business intelligence and visualization tools like Tableau are a plus.
- Understanding of the social data ecosystem, including an understanding of how analytics platforms utilize and contract with social APIs.
- Strong organizational, communication and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to translate business or data intelligence, or technical material into compelling storytelling or communications material
- Ability to prioritize own work effectively.
- Candidates should be intellectually curious, enjoy working under tight deadlines and with a group of outstanding colleagues who thrive on collaboration, teamwork and delivering top-level content for multiple formats, including social media.
