Purpose of the position

The Director of Business Development role will have responsibility and be accountable for the business development function, activities, and overall growth of the BroadReach Global Health business unit of BroadReach Group. This business unit is responsible for BroadReach’s global health line of business which focuses on the international development donor market, providing a range of health development services and solutions. This business currently employs more than 1,000 employees. Based on a recently completed strategy review, the business unit has substantial new growth opportunities ahead.

Working closely with the Group Chief Growth Officer and the Business Unit Managing Director, the Director of Business Development will lead the organization’s execution of our Global Health Business Unit growth strategy by identifying, qualifying, and winning new business in health service delivery, system strengthening, digital health, and pandemic management in sub-Saharan Africa and other areas of the developing world.

Key Accountabilities (included but not limited to)

Strategic Leadership

  • Part of Global Health Business Unit Leadership Team.
  • Supports and contribute to overall strategy for the Global Health Business.
  • Develops business growth plan.

Growth

  • Has primary responsibility for ensuring new business growth in the target market to achieve business unit top line and gross margin targets.
  • Accountable for opportunity identification, qualification, capture, proposal development, and contingency recruiting activities for the business unit.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for developing and communicating business unit development budget needs as part of the overall Chief Growth Officer budgeting process
  • Accountable for managing business unit capture and proposal development costs within prescribed budgets

Service offerings

  • Assesses and provides input to business unit leadership to align technical capabilities and associated offerings with market demand.

People Leadership

  • Hires, develops, manages, coaches, and retains business development talent for the business unit including capture, proposal, and contingency staffing functions. Some of these functions may be matrixed in from other line management functions.

Operational Management

  • Develops and implements best practice business development processes for the business unit within the context of, and consistent with, corporate processes and guidelines.
  • Ensures effective, efficient operations of the business development function, supported by matrixed teams from corporate shared services and project staff.
  • Ensures business development practices and proposals are compliant with applicable donor-specific rules and regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven track record successfully winning new projects and growing capabilities and market presence in the international development health sector, with focus on US Government acquisition and assistance.
  • Proven experience crafting innovative win strategies and proposals.
  • Proven experience building effective teams to position and win new projects.
  • Master’s degree in a health, technology, business or related discipline and at least 10 years of business development experience in international development.
  • Global experience and acuity, including experience in health development on the African continent and other developing countries.
