Job Description

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The job holder is accountable for fulfilling roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic values and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect, and fair treatment of colleagues and staff.

1. Leading Division Across Multiple Locations and Functions

  • Develop growth strategy for Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW).
  • Manage significant budgets covering diverse functional areas.
  • Lead a diverse team across multiple countries.

2. Leading Global Fundraising Activities in Areas Without Formal Presence

  • Develop partnerships with institutions across the Middle East (primarily KSA, Qatar, and Kuwait), and in other countries, community organisations, and foundations.
  • Build and manage high-net-worth individual relationships.
  • Develop digital fundraising and marketing across multiple platforms and languages.
  • Enhance donor care and support in multiple languages.

3. Member Engagement and Support

  • Coordinate cross-family appeals, campaigns, and initiatives.
  • Facilitate sharing of marketing/fundraising best practices across the family.
  • Support Islamic Relief members with fundraising and marketing activities.

4. New Member Development

  • Conduct horizon scanning and research into opportunities for potential new offices.
  • Establish new offices and manage all aspects of the setup process.
  • Manage fundraising and marketing activities, growing the capacity of the new office across all departments.
  • Support governance of new offices and provide executive management.
  • Handle day-to-day management of new offices until they become self-sustaining and have a long-term growth strategy.

5. Hybrid Office Development

  • Manage the establishment of fundraising functions for country offices transitioning to hybrid offices.
  • Develop fundraising and marketing strategy and support development of country office fundraising capability.

6. Content Management

  • Collect content from country offices to support campaigns, appeals, and initiatives across the IR family.
  • Coordinate content requests and requirements of different stakeholders.
  • Support the development of communications capability of country offices.
  • Manage editorial and creative content production for multiple stakeholders.
  • Maintain the Islamic Relief brand and develop content guides and policies to ensure high standards.

7. Other Responsibilities

  • Promote IR’s vision, mission, and values, acting as an IR role model.
  • Contribute to organisation-wide decision-making and continuous improvement as a Board member.
  • Support the development and implementation of overall organisational strategy, key policies, and processes.
  • Speak at and learn from conferences and public forums.
  • Represent IR and engage with institutional donors, umbrella organisations, networks, and other stakeholders.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Key Competencies

  • Commitment to IRW’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Track record in developing successful international fundraising products with fundraisers and programme managers to secure significant income increases.
  • Experience guiding national affiliates within an international federation to strengthen collaboration and increase income.
  • Practical understanding of major donor fundraising, programme alignment, and cost recovery principles.
  • Strong financial and resource management to achieve strategic goals within budget.
  • Customer service orientation with a record of improving internal process responsiveness.
  • Networking, diplomatic, and negotiation skills, including influencing Board members and senior leaders.
  • Ability to guide staff development to meet KPIs and organisational strategy.
  • Experience building, guiding, and motivating high-performing teams collaboratively.
  • Sound communication skills to deliver complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Ability to report decisions based on thorough analysis of available data.
  • Strategic thinking with attention to both long-term vision and immediate operational needs.
  • Understanding of international development and humanitarian work, with experience in high-level partnerships.
  • Fluency or strong working knowledge of a relevant second language (especially Arabic or French).

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge of product development and/or international market analysis and segmentation.
  • Experience raising funds from Middle East donors and/or ability to work in Arabic.
