SG&R’s Global Food Security and Agriculture portfolio is working to strengthen agricultural markets, engage youth and women as critical leaders of the on- and off-farm workforce, and tackle the dual burden of malnutrition around the globe. RTI’s work is helping foster stronger food systems, reduce malnutrition in all its forms, build resilience and engage the next generation of food security leaders. RTI is currently partnering on nearly 30 projects in East Africa, including activities focused on private sector-driven agricultural growth in Rwanda and market systems development in Kenya.


Project Description
The purpose of the USAID Food Security, Nutrition and Resilience (FSNR) Activity in Liberia is to improve Liberia’s food and nutrition security and households’ resilience. This is a five-year activity that will target smallholder farmers, subsistence farmers, cooperatives, women, and youth groups in rural and peri-urban communities. The program will be based in Monrovia, Liberia and provide programming in Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Margibi, Grand Bassa, and Montserrado communities.


Position Description
The Driver must adhere to the values of RTI and have excellent interpersonal skills. This position will report to the Finance and Operations Director and will be based in Monrovia, Liberia.


Responsibilities

•Provides transportation planning, logistical support, and travel planning to staff as needed, includingsecurity considerations and coordination.
•Drives RTI vehicle as may be assigned by the Finance and Operations Director: Drives assigned meansof transport for the transport of authorized Clients, visitors, goods, messages, mail, etc.
•Collects and delivers goods, mail, documents, and other items
•Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
•Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned means of transport, checks oil, water,battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that thevehicle is kept clean.
•Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
•Reads and understands specific vehicle/vessel operating manual to ensure the safe and appropriateoperations of the vehicle.
•Obeys traffic rules and road signs, liaises, and coordinates with local authorities to facilitate smoothrunning of vehicle/vessel movements.
•Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident
•Produces weekly records of mileage traveled and tonnage moved.
•Identifies any apparent problems during field deliveries and reports them to the appropriatepersonnel.
•Works with the project security focal point to implement and manage Journey Management Planswith the support of the Regional Security Manager.


Qualifications

•Minimum 1 year of work experience as a driver, preferably for a USAID or other donor project.
•High school graduate; formal driver training with valid driver’s license in good standing.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to work effectively under pressure
•Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
•Knowledge of radio, email, telephone and other applications.
•Trustworthy, high sense of responsibility, alertness; calm under pressure, neat and courteous.
•Good knowledge of the Liberia FSNR activity areas and the current conditions of roads and highways.
•Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
•Ability to work an irregular schedule on occasion with the ability to travel frequently and on shortnotice throughout the country.
•Proficiency in English is preferred.
•Ability to work throughout Liberia.
•A successful vision test is required for this role and will be provided by RTI.
