Work Location

  • Remote: Full Time

Expected Duration

  • 6 months (01-Jan-2026 until 30-June-2026)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting and preparing official documents.
  • Assist in drafting reports, presentations, web, social media, and other PR materials.
  • Support the application of innovations such as digital tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), for effective drug treatment, rehabilitation, and care.
  • Conduct research on drug use situations and on scientific evidence related to substance use treatment and care programmes and services.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical assistance, workshops, meetings, high-level events, and conferences.
  • Attend and summarise conferences and meetings.
  • Provide assistance during conferences and meetings.
  • Contribute to projects within the treatment, care, and rehabilitation team of UNODC’s PTRS.
  • Report to the Chief of UNODC’s Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS).

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Be enrolled in or recently completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Provide official written proof from the university supporting one of the above requirements.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including tolerance of differing opinions.
  • Field of study closely related to the internship area is required.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).

Additional Information

  • Applicants must cover the cost of travel, visas, accommodation, health insurance, and other living expenses.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
  • Successful candidates should discuss specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
