Job Description
Intern – Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes (ALDC), UNCTAD
- Location: Geneva
- Duration: 1 July 2025 – 1 October 2025 (3 months)
- Modality: Full-time (40 hours/week), in-person internship
- Division: Office of the Director, Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes (ALDC), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
- Supervision: Economic Affairs Officer
- Training & Mentorship: Provided throughout the internship
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing communication materials for social media and other platforms related to the Division’s project implementation
- Assist in preparing communication materials and a policy brief related to National Capacity Gap Assessments
- Assist in drafting publishable Op-Eds on trade and development issues affecting LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS
- Support the organization of Ministerial meetings on LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS under U16, including drafting invitation letters and liaising with Geneva-based missions
- Comply with UN rules, procedures, and policies, including the use and confidentiality of materials produced
- Avoid external communication or use of internal information for personal gain without proper authorization
- Maintain impartiality and conduct aligned with UN values during and after the internship
- Understand that there is no expectation of employment with the UN following the internship
Qualifications/Special Skills
- Must meet one of the following academic requirements:

- Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher)
- Enrolled in or completed final year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
- Computer literate in standard software applications
- Strong interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the UN Charter
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and opinions
- No prior work experience required, but relevant field of study is expected
Languages
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required

- Costs related to travel, visa, accommodation, insurance, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution
- Interns may be required to obtain a valid visa and work authorization
- Interns are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to UN professional positions for six months after the internship ends
- Children or siblings of UN staff members are not eligible; other relatives may apply but must not be supervised by or assigned to the same unit as their relative
