The Partnership Platform is seeking an experienced and motivated individual who is keen to take an instrumental role in leading the revision of the Tuvalu Education Act. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, flexible and resilient technical specialist with a keen focus on capacity development, and ability to leave sustainable improvements in a complex operating environment.

The role of Education Act Review Adviser within the Government of Tuvalu is a critical role in leading the planning, design and completion of the Education Act review activities.

The key focus areas of this role include supporting the Government of Tuvalu to:

  • Review the Education Act
  • Develop an initial draft of a revised Education Act
  • Undertake wide-ranging stakeholder consultations to inform revisions to the draft Education Act
  • Prepare the revised Education Bill for legislation

The position is a short-term adviser position with up to 80 input days over a nine-month period. The role is remote, work from home with the possibility of travel to Tuvalu.

About the Partner Organisation
For this advisory role the Partnerships Platform is partnering with the Department of Education, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS), Government of Tuvalu (GoT).

The Department of Education is mandated under the Te Kakeega III, Tuvalu National Strategy for Sustainable Development 2016-20 (superseded by Te Kete III 2021-30), and the Tuvalu Education Sector Plan (TESP) III 2016-2020 to review the Tuvalu Education Act 2008 (the Education Act).

A key national outcome will be high quality education for sustainable living for all, with a specific focus on gender equitable education and the inclusion of students with disabilities.

About You
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, resilience and adaptability and an understanding of the challenges of working in different cultural contexts. This includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including Government officials.

To be successful in this role, you will have 10 years of experience drafting legislation and policy and proven experience in developing education bills and international education covenants. You will also have experience in the application of regional and international educational frameworks.

As an experienced collaborator and facilitator, you will also have exceptional skills in developing consultation tools and conducting community consultations. Previous experience living, working or studying in the Pacific Islands will be highly regarded.

You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
