SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT: SUPPORT TO EU-SOMALI DIALOGUE ON INVESTMENTS AND TRADE. The main objective of the project is to increase sustainable investments and trade between the European Union and Somalia in the framework of the European Green Deal, specifically by : Improving the business environment in key value chains in Somalia by (i) Supporting an inclusive public-private dialogue (PPD) between the EU and Somalia (ii) building local capacities and providing technical assistance to attract sustainable EU investments.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION: The EU Somali ITBP Coordinator/Project Assistant will support the successful implementation of the project by providing administrative, logistical, and research support to the project team. A key role is administrative coordination support for the newly established EU-Somali Investment, Trade and Business Platform (ITBP).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities

Main tasks

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

Support the team and facilitate contact with project stakeholders: Ministries and Business Intermediary Organisations

Assist in maintaining positive relationships with project partners, donors, and stakeholders.

Support the development of communication materials consistent with the communication and visibility plan.

Research and Analysis

Assist in research activities, including collecting data, literature reviews, and data analysis.

Support the update to Mapping EU Private Sector in Somalia report, as well as TBD economic sector studies or market intelligence missions.

Prepare briefing materials and reports on relevant topics for project team members.

Keep abreast of developments in the field of international cooperation and share relevant insights with the team.

Administrative Support

Assist in the preparation and maintenance of project documents, including suppliers’ contracts, budgets, and progress reports.

Manage project-related correspondence, emails, and communications.

Schedule and coordinate meetings, workshops, seminars, study tours, high level events and project-related events.

Develop and maintain an organized filing system for project records, including support of the creation and use of the ITBP database of firms

Logistical Support

Act as the main admin support and logistics coordinator for the EU-Somali Investment, Trade and Business Platform (ITBP).

Coordinate travel arrangements for project team, and stakeholders.

Arrange accommodations and logistics for project-related events, study tours, and workshops.

Manage purchase / procurement as needed for events, studies or similar efforts, and communication activities.

Provide logistical support for meetings with relevant financial institutions, as well as technical assistance to Somali Firms as directed.

Financial Support

Assist in budget monitoring and financial record/book-keeping for the project.

Prepare financial reports and support the project manager in budget management.

Administer and arrange payables as directed by Cowater main office.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Assist in data collection and monitoring activities to assess project progress.

Contribute to the preparation of project reports and documentation for donors and stakeholders.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent diploma with proven work experience in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, International Relations, Development Studies).

Knowledge of international cooperation and development issues is an asset

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ relevant general professional working experience; preferably in roles interfacing with private sector, financial sector, and relevant ministries such as Ministry of commerce and industry MoCI and Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development MoPIED, and the Chamber of Commerce or similar.

Experience in administrative support of an EU-funded project (or similar); development cooperation including institutional projects.

Prior working experience with EU funded projects and good knowledge of EU rules and procedures is an asset.

Proven experience in organizing and facilitating administrative, operational and logistical support to projects and project teams;

Proven experience in reporting, minutes drafts and follow-up on project related meetings;

Proven experience in procurement and vendors’ communication

Experience in organizing events and workshops: finding venue, sending out invitations, coordinating with participants,

Experience with government officials as well as wit the private sector

Essential Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

Proficient in basic accounting such as expense tracking, budget preparation, and reconciliation of expense accounts with receipts.

Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse team.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Good communication skills

Results oriented.

Language Proficiency:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and in Somali
