Main Purpose of the Role:

Performs duties associated with daily finance operations, which includes line management of the Management Accountant and the Accounts Payable Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Support the Finance Director with preparation of monthly financial and management reporting, budgeting, and variance reporting
  • Responsible for month end close of ledgers
  • Lead the closure and preparation of year end reporting and manage audit requirements
  • Ensure controls and reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts are maintained, including Bank, VAT, Payroll, Aged Debtors, Aged Creditors
  • Prepare and manage 13-week cash flow forecasts including modelling cash receipts and reporting on actual cashflows vs the forecast.
  • Oversee the accurate and complete posting of transactions, journals, invoices and expenses by the finance team
  • Review and approve weekly payment proposals from AP Manager
  • Prepare and manage payroll and pension, liaising with the HR department and the payroll provider
  • Manage the completion and reconciliation of all statutory financial returns and associated payments including, VAT
  • Support the Project Management and Project Accounting Teams with accurate information to enable accurate forecasting for programs
  • Proactively managing the UK Finance inbox and providing timely response to internal stakeholders
  • General responsibility as a senior point of contact for issues arising from the finance system
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Staff Management

  • Responsible for managing staff performance of a small Finance team – Accountant and AP Manager
  • Offer ongoing training, support and supervision to staff and ensure annual appraisals and training needs analysis are carried out within agreed timescales
  • Monitor workload of team members to ensure quality, consistency and accuracy of responses to and interaction with internal and external stakeholders

Person Specification:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the required knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the principal duties.

Essential Skills:

  • Accounting qualification or equivalent experience required
  • Has managed a finance function in a mid-sized to large business with complex processes.
  • Has worked with mid-sized to large accounting packages / ERP systems
  • Has experience in working with foreign currency and intercompany transactions
  • Management and experience with FCDO / government regulations preferred.
  • Ability to solve technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Supervisory experience essential
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.

  • UK work authorisation or ability to obtain it required.
