Job Description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Division of Epidemiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Institute of Human Virology (IHV) is currently comprised of 14 Faculty conducting research and implementing programs in the U.S. and globally. The Global Health Specialist - EPI will assist the Division of Epidemiology Senior Proposal Manager and Director of Health Programs with the management of projects, including new business development and proposal management, program planning and monitoring implementation plans, tracking activities and milestones, and bridging technical and operational needs. This position is expected to function independently, exercise discretion, and contributes to assignments and projects that require significant evaluation, originality, and ingenuity.

  • Provide routine and non-routine technical advice, problem solving assistance, and answer questions. Interpret program goals and policies, and provide administrative support to the program team.
  • Coordinate and monitor of project grant requirements and milestones.
  • Development effective and efficient program tools to support progress reports and new grant submissions.
  • Support Faculty to prepare annual progress reports, annual budgets, and new proposals.
  • Analyze and synthesize information and data to optimize best practices.
  • Prepare biosketches, other support documents, manuscripts, abstracts and presentations as needed.
  • Collate material for management meetings, committee materials, etc.as needed for PI’s.
  • Support the development a functional knowledge and project management system.
  • Assist in evaluating program effectiveness to develop improved methods; devise evaluation methodology and implements; analyze results and recommend and/or take appropriate action. Has the authority to formulate, affect, interpret, or implement policies or procedures to ensure effective operation of the program.
  • Using state of the art technology, use sophisticated searching techniques to conduct in depth research of literature reviews, online searches, and other research tasks to address client/community’s complex and unique information requests. Develop and maintain internet web site files and/or listings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Two (2) years administrative or program coordination experience.
Other: Related experience to program may be substituted for education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and budgets.
  • MS office - high proficiency
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Extremely high accuracy and attention to detail
  • International travel may be required.
