Project Summary:

Cowater is currently recruiting a Power/Electrical Specialist (solar PV) for an upcoming project in Bangladesh. The overall objective of this assignment is to strengthen the capacity of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) to promote development of solar power technologies in off-grid and grid-connected areas of Bangladesh, by means of institutional and stakeholder capacity building, pilot-testing solar-based agricultural production and women-led livelihood activities.

The Consultant mobilized will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team of local, regional and international experts with expertise in the fields of rural energy access, power and electrical engineering, water pumping, civil engineering, financial modeling, business development, natural resources management, social and gender mainstreaming, and environment. The project will have a duration of 8 months, and the expected level of effort for the Consultant position is 4 person-months.

Respoinsabilities:

The Consultant will demonstrate solid experience in developing solar power projects (off-grid and grid connected), having the following responsibilities: (i) carry out inventory of potential sites; (ii) conduct preliminary resource assessments using satellite data and model expected outputs; (iii) conduct system simulations and design all solar generators, including configuration of power electronics and balance of plant and system; (iv) elaborate technical calculations; (v) prepare detailed cost estimates; and (vi) support ADB on procurement of goods, services and pilot equipment; supervising turnkey implementation of goods, works and pilot equipment under the TA.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., electrical; electromechanical engineering);
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably in the area of solar engineering, middle and low voltage switchgear and mini-grids;
  • International work experience in a rural context is required;
  • Professional fluency in English (written and oral)
