Duties and Responsibilities
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. It is composed of 15 judges, elected by the General Assembly and the Security Council. The Court has a twofold role:
- To settle legal disputes submitted to it by States, in accordance with international law.
- To give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by duly authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.
The Court is the only principal organ of the United Nations not serviced by the Secretariat. The Court has its own administration, the Registry, which provides judicial support and acts as a permanent administrative organ. The Registry is headed by a Registrar, elected by the Court.
Under the close supervision of an ICT Division Staff Member, the incumbent contributes to all/any ICT tasks and related activities as follows:
- Assisting with troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
- Setting up computer laptops and mobile devices and contributing to the administration of endpoints in Microsoft Intune.
- Setting up teleconference & video conference meetings (e.g., MS Teams, Cisco Webex, Zoom).
- Ad hoc end-user support via email, MS Teams, Skype for Business, Ticketing system, phone, or in-person.
- Ensuring requests are properly opened, resolved in a timely manner, documented, and closed in the ticketing system.
- Providing assistance in improving the ICT Division’s Service Management (ITIL-based) resources and capabilities by:
a) Assisting in the definition of processes.
b) Assisting in drafting guidelines.
- Providing assistance in implementing IT governance recommendations.
- Performing other tasks as required.
Qualifications/Special Skills
- The candidate must have completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Information Technology or a related field.
- Recent completion or enrollment in a Master’s program in the same field will be considered an advantage.
- No professional work experience is required.
The candidate must have:
- A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.
- A demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
- A willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of different opinions and views.
Languages
- English and French are the official and working languages of the International Court of Justice.
- A good command of either English or French and a sound working knowledge of the other language is required.
- Knowledge of Dutch is desirable.
- Knowledge of other official languages of the United Nations would be an asset.
