Intern – Journal Unit, Central Planning and Coordination Division (Department for General Assembly and Conference Management)

Work Location

  • In-person modality with flexible working arrangement

Expected Duration

  • 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Context

  • The United Nations Secretariat is seeking motivated interns to support the Journal Unit of the Central Planning and Coordination Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York.
  • The Journal Unit prepares and publishes the Journal of the United Nations, a daily record of UN Headquarters activities—meetings, schedules, topics under discussion, and related documents.
  • Internships are full-time (40 hours per week) and unpaid.
  • Interns work directly with assigned Unit members. Responsibilities vary depending on the project, intern’s background, and internship duration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the publication of the Journal of the United Nations.
  • Maintain and update Journal Unit databases and planning dashboards.
  • Compile, review, and analyze data and other information for publishing meetings and events.
  • Provide technical support for the Journal Content Management System (JCMS).
  • Respond to queries from submitters and secretariats regarding programmes or summaries in the Journal.
  • Provide administrative support to the Unit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate programme (second degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • No professional work experience is required, but the field of study must relate to the internship.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Teams.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and French required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.

Additional Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the intern’s responsibility.
  • Non-residents may require a visa and work authorization.
