Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development.
Its mission includes:
- The design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies.
- The provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments.

The internship in the Marketing and Dissemination Unit, Documents and Publications Division (Santiago, Chile) will last 4 to 6 months (4 min/6 max), depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis.
The selected intern will work under the supervision and overall guidance of the Team Leader of the Marketing and Dissemination Unit and will be responsible for the following duties:
- Provide support to the Team and the Division with the preparation, layout, conversion of digital publications, with an emphasis on the production of ePubs in InDesign.
- Layout and editing of documents in Adobe InDesign.
- Creation, organization, and management of paragraph and character styles to standardize editorial production.
- Preparation and export of digital publications in EPUB format.
- Review, adjustment, and optimization of HTML and CSS code generated during the export process.
- Collaboration in the implementation of best practices for accessibility and usability in digital publications.
Qualifications/special skills
- Applicant must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- For this internship, we are looking for students in the areas of Design, Editorial Design, Graphic Design, or related field.
- Experience using Adobe InDesign, and knowledge of HTML and CSS is required.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
- For this internship, fluency in Spanish and knowledge of English is required.
