Job Description
Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a Related Organization of the United Nations and the leading UN agency in the field of migration. IOM works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It provides services and advice to governments and migrants alike.

Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the National Programme Officer (NPO), the intern will provide full-time support in the case management of the Mission. Specific tasks include:

  • Assisting the NPO with case management activities such as developing assistance plans, processing payments, tracking progress, case closures, and monitoring.
  • Providing timely and accurate information to beneficiaries.
  • Tracking and recording case information and completing forms within IOM’s systems.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly reports as required, incorporating clients’ feedback, including information on grants provided, follow-up visits, referrals to other service providers, and awareness activities conducted.
  • Supporting the NPO with other programmatic tasks as needed.
  • Undertaking any additional tasks as assigned.

Training Components and Learning Opportunities

  • Gain hands-on experience working within a UN organization and understanding the dynamics of regional and international initiatives and working groups.
  • Develop practical knowledge in Protection projects.
  • Learn how IOM collaborates with various stakeholders to advocate for migrants’ rights.
  • Participate in Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration projects related to Protection.
  • Opportunities for career planning discussions and insights into humanitarian work within IOM.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Preferred fields of study: Social Sciences, International Relations, International Law, or related disciplines.
  • Proficient in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong interest and understanding of migration, development, and/or humanitarian issues.
  • Proven ability to deliver quality work accurately and consistently within deadlines.

Languages

  • Fluency in English, Kazakh, and Russian (oral and written) is required.
