International Team Leader / Chief Technical Advisor (w/m) for Biodiversity Project

Job Description

For an on-going pre-qualification (Expression of Interest) for Ethiopia GITEC-IGIP is looking for an experienced Team Leader / Chief Technical Advisor (f/m) with specialisation in biodiversity management.

The Project

The Project concerns the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in priority protected areas in Ethiopia including Bale Mountain National Park (BMNP) and Simien Mountain National Park (SNMP) and possibly other areas.

The purpose of the project is to effectively manage priority protected areas in collaboration and partnership with the local communities and other stakeholders. This is to sustainably conserve the biodiversity and landscapes of priority protected areas and thus contribute to the conservation and the sustainable use of biodiversity and to the improved livelihood of the local population and economic development of the country.

Project measures in the following fields shall be financed from the financial contribution:

  • Improved infrastructure and equipment in selected protected areas and additional consideration of other conservation-related facilities to be constructed
  • Strengthened protected area management
  • Local communities are engaged in protected area and natural resource management, and tourism development is conducted in a way that benefits the local communities
  • Project Management

Required Experience of the TL

  • Management of large-scale projects with focus on natural resource management / conservation projects
  • Infrastructure development in rural areas/conservation areas (planning, design, tendering and construction supervision)
  • Procurement (managing national and international tender processes) and financial management of complex donor funded projects
  • Development of O&M concepts
  • Definition of and adherence to ESHS standards
  • Protected Area management
  • Income-generating and livelihood activities in rural areas
  • Tourism development (nature-based tourism, ecotourism)

Your Educational Background

  • University degree in a relevant field

Your Expertise / Profile

  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the biodiversity sector
  • At least 6 years of leadership experience as a team leader in projects or as a manager in a company
  • At least 5 years of regional experience in projects in East Africa, of these at least 2 years in projects in Ethiopia
  • More than 6 years of experience in development cooperation projects (preferably German funding)
  • Experience in financial management (budgets)
  • Business fluent in English

Time Schedule / Duration of Assignment

The project is scheduled to start in autumn (fall) 2022 and will run on a long-term basis

The duration of your assignment in this role is set for the entire project period; the exact assignment times are subject to project needs.
