Duties and Responsibilities

General Overview

  • Support the Dynamic Knowledge and Library (DK-Library) Team in delivering quality information and knowledge services related to human rights and the work of the United Nations.
  • Contribute to the development of the new Human Rights Knowledge Gateway, including thematic knowledge hubs and related research.
  • Assist in developing content and resources for the new OHCHR intranet and knowledge hub.

Daily Responsibilities (depending on background and assignment)

  • Assist in the production of knowledge-sharing materials and activities, including:
    • Videos and tutorials
    • Website editing
    • Library guides
    • Communication campaigns
    • Knowledge retention and dissemination initiatives
  • Support library duties, such as:
    • Responding to research and reference queries
    • Cataloguing and indexing materials
    • Digitization and data management
    • Collection development
    • Organizing and implementing outreach activities
  • Assist with general administrative support as needed, including:
    • Data management
    • Document processing
    • Event organization

Note: This job opening is intended to recruit two intern positions.

Qualifications / Special Skills
  • Must meet one of the following at the time of application:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s degree or equivalent)
    • Be in the final academic year of a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
    • Have graduated in one of the fields mentioned below, and begin the internship within one year of graduation
  • Relevant areas of study include:
    • Library Science
    • Information Science
    • Knowledge Management
    • Human Rights
    • Law
    • International Relations
Languages
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an asset.

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship location may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
  • Selected candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
