The internship is with the Library of the Registry of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) in Arusha.
The Mechanism was established by the UN Security Council in 2010 to continue essential functions of the ICTR and ICTY after their closure.
The Registry provides administrative, legal, policy, and diplomatic support, and supervises:
Court support services
Enforcement of sentences
Monitoring of cases referred to national courts
Preservation and access to archives (ICTR, ICTY, and Mechanism)
Protection of victims and witnesses
Assistance to national jurisdictions
The library hosts a broad collection including international law, criminal law, genocide, and human rights.
