Program Background
EduKAiT is the main platform for the Australian Government’s support to the Kiribati Education sector, specifically by the Government of Kiribati and Ministry of Education (MoE), as it implements its Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP 2024-27).
The Program will be implemented in two five-year phases over 10 years. Phase 1 includes an emphasis on Literacy and Language for School Years 1-3, and gender and increased English proficiency for School Years 7-9 and address the high Year 9 dropout rate for boys.
Who YOU will be!
To be successful in this role, you will need to be someone who knows something about language and literacy and is willing to learn more so that you can work with teachers and children. KTC Associate Lecturers work in collaboration with EduKAiT local and international staff to provide high quality training and other support to the Ministry of Education, schools and teachers.
What you will be expected to know before you start
While you will learn a LOT in this role, you should have some knowledge about how children learn and how they learn language. You should find out about the programs that EduKAiT support in classrooms and explain why you want to contribute. You should know how you can help this work. You should also have good computer skills (Word, Excel, PPT, file management, email, Zoom). It would be a good idea to talk to someone in the program so you know what the expectations will be.
What you will gain from this role
Associate Lecturers are well-respected in their roles as they work collaboratively and positively with teachers. You would be part of this team that is held in high regard for their knowledge, professionalism and ability to help teachers. You will probably learn new ways of working, new ways of thinking about language and literacy and new ways of helping teachers and students in classrooms. You should be prepared to adapt to these changes, and you will get a lot of support in this work.
Who you will work with
The Language and Literacy Team is supervised and monitoring by the EduKAiT Language and Literacy Coordinator with an International Support advisor. The team works together to plan and implement their work. You would be expected to report to the Co-ordinator, as well as following directions from the EduKAiT Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader. The Team works closely with staff from across the Ministry so you would need to demonstrate good skills in listening and liaising with various colleagues.
