Thisis a local position, it is therefore open to Nationals of Ukraine and to individuals who have a valid residence/work permit.
The Mechanical Engineer shall work under the direct supervision of the Design Management Specialist. He/she is responsible for preparing and ensuring high-quality documentation of Mechanical engineering services for ongoing and upcoming projects, ensuring that these are completed on time and within or below budget.
The Mechanical Engineer will be undertaking the following tasks depending on the type of project ;
Technical Task
Administrative task
1. Technical Task
Design Review
Review mechanical designs and documentation submitted by LTA partners to ensure compliance with project specifications, UNOPS standards, and applicable regulations.
Verify that the mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing and sanitation, fire protection, building automation systems, etc.) meet the project’s functional and performance requirements.
Provide technical advice and recommendations to the project team on the adequacy, feasibility, and reliability of proposed mechanical systems.
Peer Review
Conduct independent peer reviews of mechanical designs submitted by external design consultants to identify potential design issues, risks, or improvements.
Ensure that designs are optimized for efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness without compromising safety or functionality.
Prepare detailed peer review comments highlighting key findings, discrepancies, and suggestions for design improvements.
Ensure that the designs submitted by LTA partners are developed efficiently, aiming to streamline the process and minimize the approval timeline from UNOPS IPMG (Infrastructure and Project Management Group).
Technical Coordination
Collaborate with the project team, consultants, and other stakeholders to resolve any design conflicts, discrepancies, or concerns that may arise during the review process.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, etc.) to ensure that mechanical systems integrate seamlessly with other building systems.
Compliance and Standards
Ensure that all mechanical designs adhere to relevant building codes, environmental standards, and safety regulations.
Stay updated on changes in mechanical engineering standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements, ensuring their incorporation into the design review process.
Risk Assessment
Identify and assess risks associated with the mechanical design, including but not limited to system failure, safety concerns, and operational inefficiencies.
Provide recommendations to mitigate identified risks and improve the overall reliability of the mechanical systems.
2. Administrative tasks:
Maintain clear and organized records of design reviews, peer reviews, and recommendations made throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare regular progress reports summarizing review activities, issues identified, and actions taken.
Ensure designs comply with building codes, safety standards, and regulations.
Update Design Management Specialist the project progress, design reviews, and technical findings.
Perform any other tasks relevant to the Infrastructure Portfolio as and when required.
The Mechanical Engineer will be expected to deliver the following:
