Job Description

Work Location

  • The work location, duration, and modality can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate and operational needs.
  • Option 1: Flexible (Hybrid, all remote, or in-person)
  • Option 2: In-person/ New York, USA
  • Option 3: Hybrid (a few days per week in-person in New York, USA, and a few days per week remote)
  • Option 4: All remote

Expected Duration

  • 3 months with a possibility of extension up to 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The internship is UNPAID, full-time (35 hours per week) for three to six months.
  • Work location, duration, and modality can be adjusted according to the successful candidate’s request and operational needs.
  • Start dates: One intern in October–November 2025; one intern in January–February 2026.
  • Report to the Head of Office, Office for Coordination and Shared Services (OCSS).
  • Support organizational culture initiatives ensuring inclusion, innovation, and effectiveness through the “Building Our Pillar” programme.
  • Support the team in:
    • Implementing activities according to the Building Our Pillar action plan, including the MyCareer initiative, Gender Parity Action Plan, and Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
    • Collecting, analyzing, and visualizing quantitative and qualitative information.
    • Updating online information related to staff engagement activities.
    • Assisting with the preparation of weekly newsletters and other communications.
    • Supporting change management initiatives.
    • Coordinating and assisting with specific events.
    • Performing other ad hoc duties as required.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
    • Enrolled in, or completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Relevant fields: communications, management, data, human resources, or related subjects.
  • Field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
  • Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • UN staff family restrictions: Children or siblings of a UN staff member are not eligible.
  • Candidates must cover the cost of travel, visas, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

    • Explanation of why the applicant is the best candidate for this internship.
    • Explanation of interest in the UN Internship Programme.
  • Personal History Profile should include past work experiences, IT skills, and three references.
