Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team in China, including all the UN entities present in China. The purpose of the Resident Coordinators System (RCS) is to bring together different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level, helping the UN to be a more relevant and reliable partner for governments, notably by establishing and strengthening these partnerships for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team. The RCO provides inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and its various inter-agency working mechanisms, including theme groups. Key functions of the RCO include:
The RCO China is looking for a motivated Protocol Intern to join the RCO China office. The duration of this internship is six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Under the overall supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, the Protocol Intern will be responsible for supporting the UN Partnership Officer in engaging with the government counterparts, on all issues related to protocol. The Protocol Intern shall provide support including preparing draft documents, such as the Note Verbales, and liaising with government departments, on all issues related to protocol. The approach shall be consistent with RCO policies, rules and procedures and that of the Chinese Government. The Protocol Intern shall work in close collaboration with the Partnership and Financing Officer, as well as with Government partners, think tanks and other experts, ensuring successful completion of the assignment. Responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
