The Transport Division/Sustainable Transport Section internship is for 3 months, with the possibility of extension up to 6 months if required.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (37.7 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the assigned division or section.
The Sustainable Transport Section supports ESCAP member States and stakeholders in promoting sustainable and inclusive urban development through efficient and resilient transport networks.
Daily responsibilities depend on the intern’s background, assigned office, and internship period. Duties may include:
Researching the availability of road safety, sustainable transport, and smart transport data for ESCAP member countries.
Identifying and collecting primary and secondary information related to road safety, sustainable and smart transport, and selecting appropriate methodologies.
Supporting the preparation of case studies and background materials for meetings and workshops.
Reviewing, analyzing, and compiling collected data; preparing a report with findings, conclusions, tables, graphs, charts, and references.
Preparing infographics and communication materials for advocacy purposes.
Developing presentations on the intern’s work, findings, outcomes, and lessons learned.
Coordinating and liaising with Transport Division staff to identify key issues.
Supporting day-to-day operations of the Division/Section, including projects and meeting/workshop preparations.
Familiarizing with UN administrative procedures and typical organizational tasks.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following:
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish).

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship location may need to obtain a visa and work authorization.
