Job Description

Intern – Public Management, ILPES (ECLAC)
Work Location: Remote and on-site in Santiago
Expected Duration: 3–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is one of the five UN regional Commissions, founded in 1948. Its mission includes promoting economic and social development in the region, advising governments, designing and evaluating public policies, and facilitating regional cooperation. The internship is offered by the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES) and will last between 3 to 6 months depending on office needs. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period on an “as-needed” basis.

Under the supervision of the Head of Public Management, the intern will:

  • Support research on public management topics such as:
    • Results-based management
    • Institutional planning
    • Monitoring and evaluation
    • Open and digital government
    • Performance management
    • Civil service policy
  • Analyze trends and national experiences, and produce knowledge products (texts, infographics, etc.) in multiple formats
  • Assist in managing and updating the ILPES Regional Planning Observatory
  • Systematize experiences related to SDG territorialization
  • Prepare reports, presentations, charts, graphs, lists, tables, and diagrams
  • Draft summaries and bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, books, and publications
  • Transfer content to digital learning tools (e.g., Canva, Genially)
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications / Special Skills
  • No prior work experience is required
  • Research experience in social sciences is desirable
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative database management is an advantage

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D.
  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree (master’s or Ph.D.)

Required Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
    • Video editing software (Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro)
    • Online interactive tools (Canva, Moodle)
Languages
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Knowledge of an additional UN official language is an advantage
    (UN official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish)
Additional Information
  • Interns are not financially compensated by the UN
  • Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution
  • Interns must ensure they have the appropriate visa and work authorization
  • Selected candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the internship offer
