Intern – Project Management Unit (ECLAC) Work Location: Santiago Expected Duration: 6 months
Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations, founded in 1948 to contribute to the region’s economic and social development.
Its mission includes the design, monitoring, and evaluation of public policies; provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to governments; and support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities.
The internship is with the Project Management Unit, Programme Planning and Operation Division. It will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Offices.
Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis.
Internships take place within the Republic of Korea–ECLAC Cooperation Programme.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the internship period and may include:
Supporting the assigned unit by conducting online research and preparing inputs related to the unit’s work
Assisting in monitoring developments/issues by collecting, selecting, analyzing, and compiling materials from multiple sources (e.g., databases, the library, and the internet)
Gathering information on cooperation strategies by countries, intergovernmental institutions, foundations, and other actors in development cooperation
Attending meetings and events related to the work of the unit
Preparing briefings, talking points, and meeting minutes
Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Special Skills
To qualify for a United Nations internship, applicants must meet one of the following:
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
For this internship, studies in the area of International Development Cooperation are desirable.
No professional work experience is required, but the field of study must be closely related to the internship.
Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or completion as part of the application. An official certificate will be required later.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
The official UN languages are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.
Additional Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship country may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
