This post is located in the Security and Training and Development Team (TDT), Security and Safety Services (SSS Vienna), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV).
The incumbent will be under the supervision of the Lieutenant, Training and Development Team.
Overall team goal: Facilitate and support training and development for SSS Vienna officers and provide training to all staff as requested, in support of the United Nations Security Management System for safe and secure operations.
TDT administers a variety of learning programmes both in classrooms and online.
Internship details:
Duration: 6 months
Desired start date: November 2024
UNPAID, full-time (5 days/40 hours per week)
Supervision by the Assistant Chief of UNSSS
Responsibilities:
Research, draft, and present various training and development–related topics
Enter data for training-related statistics and gather other data from existing databases
Support preparation of training workshops and meetings, including scheduling, reviewing and preparing materials, registrations, etc.
Contribute to TDT’s outreach activities, including training needs analysis, client satisfaction surveys, and course evaluations
Participate in team meetings and assist with follow-up activities
Assist with townhalls, venue setup, conference mission debrief, field office training, and other programmes as needed
Coordinate with the Learning and Organizational Development Unit and Planning Team on Security Officers’ language course attendance for planning and scheduling purposes
Assist other team members during peak periods with coordination of various learning and development activities
Assist with initial training of new interns
Assist in the Pass Office with picture-taking and other weekly administrative tasks
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
(a) Enrolled in, or recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
(b) Enrolled in, or recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
Professional work experience is not required
Field of study should be closely related to the type of internship
Must provide proof of enrollment or completion of relevant program
Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially:
MS Word
MS Excel
MS PowerPoint
MS Teams
Ability to conduct research on various topics is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat
Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
Knowledge of another UN language is desirable
Intern Specific Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization
