The Environment and Development Division, Sustainable Urban Development Section, is seeking 2–3 interns for a minimum of four months, preferably six months.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time in-person (35 hours/week), under supervision of a staff member in the assigned office.
The Section works with ESCAP member States and stakeholders to advance sustainable and inclusive urban development across Asia-Pacific through:
Facilitating intergovernmental processes to strengthen regional cooperation and implementation of global/regional frameworks.
Providing technical assistance and supporting capacity development.
Developing and disseminating knowledge products for evidence-based decision-making.
Facilitating networking and partnerships to mobilize knowledge, resources, and innovation.
Daily Responsibilities (may include):
Provide support to organize and conduct meetings, including drafting documents and communications, preparation for intergovernmental meetings, and follow-up activities (40%).
Assist with tasks linked to programme/project implementation such as SDG Localization, urban climate action, clean air, smart cities, sinking cities, sustainable urban development, etc. (30%).
Conduct research and identify case studies on urban development policies and programmes, assessing their impact on inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development in the region (20%).
Participate in day-to-day operational tasks such as responding to information requests, supporting presentations, and updating web pages (10%).
Qualifications/Special Skills
Eligibility:
Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher) in fields related to international/sustainable development, urban planning, policy analysis, environmental management, social sciences, or similar.
Or, enrolled in, or completed, the final year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s level) in related fields.
Special Skills (desirable):
Good command of Microsoft Suite beyond Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Video-editing skills.
Graphic design or illustration skills for urban context.
Languages
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of another Asia-Pacific language is an asset.
Additional Information
Interns are not financially remunerated; travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents may need the appropriate visa/work authorization.
Visa requirements should be clarified before accepting the internship offer.
