Position Overview:
Chemonics International is seeking a Senior Director, Compensation & Benefits. The Sr. Director, Compensation & Benefits leads the design and delivery of compensation and benefits programs across Chemonics. This includes compensation, benefit and retirement and savings, and both supplemental and voluntary benefits programs that support organizational strategies for our global workforce. The director will supervise a compensation director, retirement manager, and benefits manager. This position performs special duties and assignments as designated by the Senior Vice President of Human Resources.

Responsibilities:
- Designs and delivers compensation and benefits programs and associated communications strategy, covering compensation and incentive programs, health, welfare, retirement and savings, supplemental and voluntary benefits programs for US and global staff in alignment with Chemonics’ philosophy.
- Leads, directs, mentors, and coaches the compensation, benefits and welfare, and retirement teams to meet company objectives, goals, and philosophies by creating clear work plans, setting targets, and monitoring implementation to ensure timely administration of compensation and benefits activities in compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and other government regulations, company policies, and practices.
- Establishes a system to regularly review and maintain Chemonics’ compensation philosophy, job architecture, and compensation policies and structure to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation. Works directly with the SVP on supporting the Board Compensation Committee.
- Remains abreast of benefits best practices, develops cost control recommendations and strategies for improvements to ensure maximum, high-quality benefits coverage for employees, including health, welfare, disability, life insurance, ESOP, 401K, and any other plans.
- Oversees effective negotiations with, and subsequent management of, providers, brokers and consultants to obtain best rates for the organization and maintain high quality of benefits and customer services provided.
- Ensures a positive experience for all employees by monitoring performance of teams to maintain high-level of responsiveness and effective communication of policies, practices, and guidelines to all incoming queries and ensuring proper and timely reconciliation of benefits deductions, compensation, and employee data are performed and reported appropriately.
- In collaboration with the retirement manager, supports the ESOP Administrative Committee, ensuring proper administrative protocol is maintained, decisions are made in timely manner and recorded appropriately, and that the committee is kept abreast of developments.
- Provides consultative expertise, advice, and guidance regarding compensation and benefits matters to the, HR SVP, and regional SVPs.
- Attends industry events and workshops to expand technical knowledge in human resources discipline and international development, i.e. Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) workshops.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships will all levels of management that fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectations.
- Performs other assignments, business development, special initiatives, duties and responsibilities as required.
- Serves as acting SVP, HR as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 – 12 years of progressive compensation and benefits experience and total rewards program.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent years of experience; CEBS or PHR/SPHR certifications preferred.
- Strong knowledge and experience in designing total rewards programs.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and effectively apply labor codes and benefit plans; prior experience in the design and program management of total rewards and benefit programs required.
- Experience working with an Employee Stock Ownership Program strongly preferred.
- Ability to solve complex technical, managerial or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge.
- Strong business acumen and comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures regarding compensation management and international benefits plans.
- Knowledge of company’s main client, USAID, and its operations, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to provide proactive customer service to both internal and external clients
- Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and work with highly confidential and/or protected information required
- Exhibits high emotional IQ with emphasis on empathy and compassion
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team while demonstrating integrity, independent and strategic thinking, sound judgment, and respect for others.
- Strong knowledge of HRIS systems and international and US laws regarding benefits programs.
- Strong analytic and critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent project management and technical skills.
