Project Summary:

The Government of Egypt envisions improved government efficiency and transparency through increased automation and e-services, human development and staff training for judges, senior court management and clerical staff, social inclusion, and the development of systems as laid out in its Vision 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy. To support that vision, MSI is implementing the USAID-funded Economic Courts Activity, a five-year program that works in eight Egyptian governorates: Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Tanta, Mansoura, Beni Suef, Assiut and Qena.

Position Summary:

The Senior Translator will translate documents and other material from one language to another and/or translate spoken passages from one language to another during meetings, discussions, seminars, and teleconferences. This position will work directly under the supervision of the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and rewrite technical documents in the target language, following rules pertaining to factors such as word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
  • Serve as interpreter at seminars, speeches, meetings, and teleconferences providing consecutive or simultaneous translation between languages.
  • Facilitate effective communication and comprehension between parties.
  • Listen to complete statements in one language, translate to second, and translate responses from second into first language; express either approximate or exact translation, depending on nature of occasion.
  • Render oral translation of material at time it is being spoken while interpreting simultaneously.
  • Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy.
  • Follow up with internal team members and counterparts to ensure that translations meet their needs.
  • Receive briefing or prepares through reading and study on subject matter prior to meetings or discussions.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Interpreting, or similar field is required.
  • Minimum five years of work experience as a Translator and/or Interpreter is required.
  • Strong legal background is highly desirable.
  • Strong proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors is required.
  • Strong time-management skills are preferred.
  • Strong listening, organizational, teamwork, and technical writing skills are required.
  • Fluent reading and writing skills in Arabic and English is required.
