The Asian Development Bank has approved a loan worth USD150 million to finance the second phase of a coal-fired heating system project in China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
The project aims to improve the aging coal-fired heating systems in Inner Mongolia to make it more energy-efficient and environment-friendly. The district heating systems, installed in the 1970s, have become unreliable, costly and harmful to the environment, according to ADB.
The project will set up more energy-efficient and cleaner heating supply systems in municipalities, benefitting more than 786,000 urban residents.
The regional government will execute the project until December 2014.
