The Asian Development Bank welcomes the Government of Pakistan's request to focus on energy, infrastructure and urban services. These are considered long standing "binding constraints" to growth in the South Asian nation.

The government also wants ADB to pursue fewer but larger projects. The bank's commitments are outlined in the 2009-2013 country partnership strategy.

ADB representatives told Devex that among its investments, the bank plans to provide funds for a sustainable energy efficiency program and an urban transport project in Lahore.

To support developments in urban services, ADB is currently implementing a project in Sindh and is in the process of designing one for Karachi.

ADB has been engaged in Pakistan's development for almost 40 years.
