AfDB working to redefine meaning of 'local staff'

With the majority of its employees now relocated from Tunis to Abidjan, the African Development Bank is already looking ahead. Find out how the institution is planning to provide more opportunity for its employees to work in different countries in this video interview.

    By Kelli Rogers // 28 October 2014
With roughly 60 to 70 percent of its employees now relocated from a temporary office in Tunis to the bank’s former — and perhaps permanent — headquarters in Abidjan, the African Development Bank is already looking ahead. The move of 1,600 staff members along with their spouses and family has been a challenge, David Munyoro, the bank’s chief recruitment coordination officer, told Devex’s Kate Warren at the Devex Career Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. With a hiring freeze still in place, Munyoro noted that only a few internal positions — mostly those of staff who were unwilling or unable to make the move — are currently open, along with a few externally advertised high priority positions. “We are hoping that management will be making a decision early next year to lift the recruitment freeze,” he said. But the freeze has allowed the bank to work on strategic staffing plan and identify new hiring priority areas, like climate change. Find out how the bank is working to provide more opportunity for its employees to work in different countries and redefine the meaning of “local staff” in this video interview.
