Economic growth, job creation and investment will be the focus of the 2010 Africa-European Union Summit in Tripoli, Libya.
Approximately 80 heads of state and governments from Europe and Africa are expected to attend the summit, which is slated for Nov. 29-30. These would include European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs.
“During the Summit, leaders are expected to push for inclusive and sustainable growth as key drivers for development and the fight against poverty,” the European Commission said in a press release.
The event will involve discussions on issues relating to regional integration, infrastructure, energy, climate change, agriculture, the Millennium Development Goals, peace and security, governance, human rights, migration and job creation.
Meantime, a recently released Eurobarometer on EU-Africa relations shows that the majority of European citizens agree with the focus of ties between the two parties. Europeans said they see poverty as the main challenge for development in Africa, along with peace and security and human rights.
