Career advice from SDG advocate and We Belong co-founder Jana Degrott

The social entrepreneur reflects on her career of fighting for underrepresented women in leadership and how gender equality professionals can make an impact.

    By Katrina J. Lane // 10 January 2024

Social entrepreneur, elected official, and SDG Goalkeeper with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Jana Degrott is on a mission to amplify the voices of underrepresented women in leadership.

Degrott entered the realm of politics at the age of 21, driven by the lack of diverse representation, and to her own surprise, was elected as a councilor in Steinsel, Luxembourg, a post she has maintained for over six years.

In her ongoing commitment to challenge stereotypes and highlight positive role models, she co-founded We Belong Europe in 2020 — alongside Sumaia Saiboub and Yasmine Ouirhrane. We Belong Europe serves as a platform to amplify the voices of exceptional, unrepresented women. “I felt a profound sense of loneliness as a young woman of color in politics, and I'm driven to change that narrative,” Degrott said.
