European Union foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton has appointed Maria Marinaki as the European External Action Service’s managing director for global and multilateral issues.

Marinaki currently serves as Greece’s permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna, Austria.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Maria Marinaki as the Managing Director for Global and Multilateral Issues, which completes my team in the Corporate and Policy Board,” Ashton said in a March 31 statement. “Maria is an experienced diplomat who will make an important contribution to our work on a wide range of issues, including human rights and non-proliferation.”

In her new post, Marinaki will be in charge of multilateral relations and global issues as well as oversee matters on development cooperation coordination at EEAS.
